You may choose from “index/active” and “index-only” asset mixes.

  • Index/active asset mixes include both index and actively managed funds. Managers of actively managed funds try to outperform similar funds or a specific market benchmark. To do this, they use research, market forecasts, and their own judgment and experience to buy and sell securities.
  • Index-only asset mixes include index funds only. Index funds don’t try to beat the market. Instead, their managers seek to closely track the performance of a selected market index. The funds buy and hold all or a representative sample of the securities in the index. They generally have low expense ratios because they don’t employ costly fund analysts. That means they can keep more of your money invested in the fund.

Whenever you invest, there's a chance you could lose the money.
